Daphne Du Maurier Building

You will be able to access your timetable from My Timetable which, once you have registered your IT account, you can access via iExeter. This will tell you all your scheduled learning activities for your programme, including where you need to be and when.

If you’re on one of our standard programmes, at undergraduate or postgraduate level, you usually take four modules per term. Your module lead(s) will guide you through, week by week, all of the learning you will be expected to complete. You will have synchronous sessions each week for your module in a lecture theatre or seminar room. Dependent on your course, you may also attend practical sessions. Your timetabled sessions are chances for you to benefit from the expertise of our academic staff, who are there to inspire and guide your exploration of the module content rather than closely dictate what you need to do to pass your assessments.

You will notice that your timetable is not completely full, and this is to allow time for other compulsory aspects of your course. For each of your modules there will be independent study that needs to be completed. This may include further reading, watching recorded videos, completing quizzes or written work and this will be explained by your module lead. In addition, you will be asked to meet with your tutor. Sometimes tutorials will be in your timetable, and other times your tutor will contact you directly to arrange. Most of your work towards achieving the learning objectives of each module will be done during private study time, either alone or in groups, so you’ll need to develop good time management skills to succeed. This way of studying might be quite different to how you’ve learnt in the past, so you might find that it takes a short while to adapt.

Our virtual learning environment (VLE - ours is called the ‘Exeter Learning Environment’, or ‘ELE’ for short, and uses the Moodle platform) provides all of the core materials for each of your modules.

We expect all students to attend all of these sessions as per the University of Exeter attendance policy. If occasionally you are unable to attend, due to ill health, you will usually be able to access recordings or notes as appropriate to the type of session.

Every lecturer will also have two ‘office’ hours each week set aside for individual meetings with students, so you can use these to get advice about assessments, to ask questions about module topics, or to gain feedback on your work. You can find out more information about these in the ELE pages.
