Welcome to the Arctic Ecosystems and Climate Change course! This course is delivered by the Increased Carbon Accumulation in Arctic Peatlands (ICAAP) project at the University of Exeter. The course will introduce the ecosystems that currently exist in the Arctic and how climate change is likely to affect them. All other ecosystems on Earth are likely to shift to higher latitudes as the climate warms, but the Arctic will just “shrink”. We will explain what ecosystems are there now, why they are important and how they may change in the future. A particular case study will be focused on peatland ecosystems and their carbon storage.
