Penryn campus building at sunset

The Department of Earth and Environmental Science (EES) is based on the Penryn Campus in Cornwall, only a few miles from the coastal town of Falmouth.

Our Penryn Campus is consistently ranked highly for satisfaction: students report having a highly personal experience that is intellectually stretching but great fun, providing plenty of opportunities to quickly get to know everyone. Currently supporting around 6,000 students, the campus – shared with Falmouth University – combines the latest academic research and residential facilities with an intimacy, energy and friendliness. The diversity of students’ interests and backgrounds gives the campus a unique vibrancy which we love!

Take a virtual tour to start getting familiar with our campus.

The campus is constantly developing, most recently the £12 million extension to the existing Science and Engineering Research Support Facility (SERSF), which builds upon the £30 million investment in the Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI). These facilities put not only the University, but also Cornwall as a whole, at the forefront of research aiming to solve problems associated with environmental change. Other recent additions include the Renewable Energy Engineering Facility (REEF) and a £1.2 million Masters Suite. A £4 million sports centre and nursery, and a prestigious Green Flag Award for our grounds, help make this campus a great place to study, work and live.

We also love our culture and community. The Penryn Campus is located at the former site of Glasney College, an influential 13th century institution. Modern Penryn is home to a growing community of artists, young professionals, and university students. The nearby town of Falmouth offers a wide variety of shops, great eateries, and social venues, and hosts a number of annual events such as the Oyster Festival and Sea Shanty Festival. We’ll be talking more later about our favourite places to visit.
