Brainstorming on whiteboard

As a Bioscience student, dependent on the constraints of the timetable, you are able to choose optional modules from outside of your programme. After you have met the compulsory requirements of your programme, you may take up to 30 credits a year outside of your main degree subject(s). These credits count towards the degree award and classification as usual, but will not change the title of the degree.

If you’re interested in taking a module from outside your course or programme of study you should first discuss this with your tutor or Programme Director. All module choice requests require the approval of your Faculty (and the Faculty offering the module) and should be fully justifiable on academic or career grounds.

Language proficiency

Some bioscience students access elective language modules via the University’s Foreign Language Centre, and if you have capacity in your programme you may be able to complete the 60 credits to have ‘With Proficiency in [insert language]’ added to your degree title. We offer modules in Cornish, French, German, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.
