Here in HaSS, we work closely with the Students’ Union (SU) to ensure you get the most out of your time at Exeter. The SU staff have been working hard to develop activities and services for you, and student societies will run events during Welcome Week. Please check the SU website for further updates.
The start of university is an exciting time. Your Students’ Union will organise events throughout September to connect students from different courses and studying with Falmouth University and the University of Exeter. There is something for everyone, from coffee meet ups and artistic endeavours to sports club tasters and society events. The SU oversees nearly 150 different societies, and we strongly encourage you to explore all the taster events during your induction to find groups and activities that match your interests. Connecting with other students is the key to beginning to feel at home here, so keep checking the SU website and start deciding what your welcome will look like!
But there’s more to the SU than socialising and sport: they also offer brilliant food outlets, a shop, and an Advice Unit where you can get free, confidential guidance on areas as diverse as your finances, accommodation, welfare, and academic issues such as appeals, mitigation and misconduct. The SU also offers welfare support on issues such as mental health, accommodation support, financial hardship and sexual health.
They have also created space for our student-led communities and collectives to connect, make those lifelong friendships and above all feel that Cornwall is somewhere we can all call home.
All of these amazing services and resources are supported by elected SU Presidents, who are your representatives and work hard with the University to get your voices heard.
