9.2 What to do when you arrive

Now is a good time to check the University’s web pages on what to do when you arrive. The New Students Guide will list all of the essential tasks you need to complete when you arrive. 

Here are some important tasks for new HASS students:

Your Timetable

Our Timetable clinic will be open during Welcome Week so go along at any time during the week to discuss any timetable-related questions, or any problems you may be experiencing with your personal timetable.

International students

If you’re an international student and moving to Exeter, your ‘Welcome to the University of Exeter’ email will state whether you need to present original documentation before you complete online registration. If you do, you’ll need to present your documents at the Forum (in the middle of the Streatham Campus), and you’ll have received information in your email as to how to pre-book an appointment for this. If you are unsure, please consult the International Student Support pages or log a query at the Student Information Desk - SID.

If you are on a student visa, you will need to pick up your BRP card and register with the police. There are information pages on the University’s website about BRP card collection and police registration.

You'll also need to download the MyExeter app so that you can complete Digital Check-in to meet any visa requirements for attendance.

Check that you’ve chosen your optional modules

If your programme includes optional (or 'elective') modules you will have received instructions in your welcome email about how to select these. For help with this online task, see the Student Hubs webpages, and if you are still struggling you can contact the Hub that supports your subject. Remember that undergraduates can request to take up to 30 credits (i.e. two 15 credit modules or one 30 credit module) each year outside of your main degree subject, subject to meeting the compulsory requirements of your programme. This means that as long as your request is approved, and you meet module pre-requisites, you can choose from hundreds of different modules from across the University, so it’s worth exploring your options with your Academic (Personal) Tutor at your first meeting.

Register with the Student Health Centre

It’s important that you register with the Health Centre when you arrive in Exeter. Please complete an online registration form at www.exeterstudenthealthcentre.co.uk/how-to-use-us/registration. The Health Centre is located at Reed Mews.

Visit the Library

Once you’ve arrived, take some time to visit the Library and familiarise yourself with its resources. You can also take a look at the online introduction to the Library’s resources.
