The Student Employability and Development team in the Career Zone are available to support you throughout your degree and we have a great track record in helping students to secure the best graduate positions.

Some of you will have a clear idea of where your degree will take you when you graduate, and others will still be thinking about your options.

Career Zone

Whether you’re deciding on your future, planning to get more experience, or in the midst of competing for a job, the Career Zone are here to support you. The information and events are categorised into the phases ‘Decide’, ‘Plan’, and ‘Compete’ to help you to get the right information at the right time to suit your career planning. Further information on the Career Zone can be found here.

Professional Placements

Some undergraduate students may be on a ‘with professional placement’ programme, these allow you to spend your third year on a self-organised work placement with an organisation relevant to your degree. They allow you to develop your career focus and are extremely valued by employers. If you are currently enrolled on one of these programmes, you will receive support through your degree to help identify a placement suitable for you.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Throughout your time at University you’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of a number of extra-curricular activities which will help you build your professional network, build your confidence and career readiness.

Student Employability Committee

In Biosciences we’re lucky enough to have a student society entirely dedicated to employability of all Bioscience students. Throughout the year, the employability committee for biosciences invites people from a range of organisations to give seminars about their work and recommendations for how to be employable in their chosen career. The committee also organises our amazing annual careers fair - a fantastic event where students get to speak with lots of different employers. Perhaps you might like to join the committee - it’s a fantastic opportunity as you’re then one of the people who gets to network with these employers to organise the events.
