Health and wellbeing are crucial ingredients of effective study as well as a rich and fulfilling student experience. The University’s Wellbeing and Welfare services are always available to help you get the most out of your time at University. Make sure you’re aware of the different resources available, if you have a problem or something you want to talk about there is support available for you.

What do the Wellbeing & Welfare Services do?

Wellbeing offer a range of services to support students personally and in their studies when difficulties occur. This could be managing your mental health, a disability or long term health condition, navigating an emotional challenge, or perhaps adjusting to living in a new country, missing home and making new friends.

Our Wellbeing webpages are organised to reflect the types of support on offer. Even if you are fit and healthy now it is worth exploring what is available in case you or a friend find yourself in need of support during your time at Exeter.

Where to go for support - Student Services

The Compass is our student information service which allows you to access the help you need.

The Penryn Campus Student Support Team is here to help you get the most out of your time at university. They can support, advise, and point you in the right direction with all sorts of concerns such as general student life, academic issues, living in the community, personal relationships, general worries, as well as psychological or emotional concerns and mental health difficulties. There are also a range of resources and peer support groups to help you to take a positive approach to your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing during your University experience.

Filling in our confidential support form connects you directly to our expert specialists, who will go through the information you provide to connect you to the most appropriate help. Whatever you’re going through, the best place to start is here.

Prefer not to fill in a form? You can also email studentservices@fxplus.ac.uk or give us a call on 01326 370 460

All you need to do is visit The Compass helpdesk located in the library or call 01326 370460 to book a slot. You can choose between a face-to-face appointment, online (via Microsoft Teams) appointment or phone call. For more information email: studentservices@fxplus.ac.uk.

Chaplaincy

Our Chaplaincy provides pastoral and spiritual care for students and staff of all faiths and none.

Disability advice and support

Our Accessibility and Inclusive Learning teams support and advise students with disabilities, long-term health conditions and Specific Learning Differences (dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD) by recommending adjustments to teaching, assessment and accommodation. Their aim is for all students to feel valued and included and to have the right support in place to facilitate life at the University.

They can advise you on applying for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). This could help overcome any practical barriers to learning, and might include: support workers, study skills tutors, specialist equipment or software. They will work with you in a confidential and supportive way to discuss your needs.

If you are eligible, we can help you to set up an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to recommend reasonable adjustments to help you to minimise the impact any disability, long term health condition or specific learning difficulty may have on your studies. Reasonable adjustments for examinations (such as extra time, laptop usage, specific rooming provision) can be put in place with our support and appropriate supporting evidence.

It’s important to note that previous exam adjustments you may have had before registering at the university will not automatically transfer to your study at Exeter.

Campus accessibility

We also have a dedicated University of Exeter Penryn Campus AccessAble site to help you navigate your way around campus and buildings.
