Students in lecture

As you enter University, you may find yourself needing a bit of help. Do not be afraid to ask - asking for support is not a sign of weakness.

What kind of support can I ask for?

Asking for help is definitely not a sign of weakness - our most successful students are those who engage with all of the support on offer, and we actively encourage you to access as many of our workshops and resources as possible!

  • Support from your Academic (Personal) Tutor: Through your first meetings with your Academic (Personal) Tutor, you’ll be encouraged to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps you’re brilliant at essay writing but could do with some help with statistics? Or maybe you’ve realised that your IT skills are holding you back? You will be expected to identify how you might reach your full potential. You’ll be encouraged to do this throughout your time at Exeter.
  • Support from University resources: The University’s Study Zone (please activate your IT account so that you can access this!) has a fantastic range of resources to help you with academic reading, academic writing, group work and lots of other things. We particularly recommend checking out the Study Zone’s resources on time management skills as this is something with which new students often struggle, due to university’s greatly increased emphasis on independent study. the webpages for the Study Zone also give you an overview of what else is offered here, including drop-in sessions, both online and in-person, to get advice and support in a 1:1 format.

Feel free to use the Forum below to ask any questions you might have about the academic support on offer, and then click through to the next step to find out about an exciting alternative way to get feedback on your work.
