Hi, my name is Freya. I'm starting the BA Politics and Sociology course. I'm from England, but I spent the last three years in Spain due to economic circumstances. I've lived in two main areas in my life, Somerset and a place called the Costa Del Sol in Spain. Somerset is renowned for the production of cider whereas Costa Del Sol is very much a 'party destination' for tourists with lots of clubs.

Hi, my name is Caitlin. I am studying BA in drama and television studies. I live in England however, I have lived in a few different places when growing up. Now i live in Warwick which is home to Warwick castle which you might have been to on a primary school trip.

Hello, my name is Jahanvi Ratoria. I'm going to pursue Masters in English Literary Studies. I come from a small city, Khargone, from India. It's a lovely place with hospitable people. A fun fact about my city is that one of the most prominent rivers of India, Narmada flows passing through Khargone. Also, Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar, two important religious temples, also known as jyotirlingas, are situated in my city smile

Hi, my name is Hams. I'm studying LLB Law! I'm from Libya, Palestine and Jordan but I've lived in the UK most of my life. A fun fact about Libya is that the beaches there are exactly like the ones in Egypt, so whenever I visit; I utilise my chances since it's for free! (It's all the Mediterranean Sea). Another fun fact, Jordan has one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and also they shot scenes from the live action film of Aladdin. I've never visited Palestine, but I hope to do so and I can then give you fun facts about my home.

Hi, I'm Pippa and I'm studying Film and Television studies. I'm from Bristol but I spent most of my childhood living in Scotland (Glasgow and St Andrews). St Andrews is mostly known for its golf course and university but also for being where the opening scene of Chariots of Fire was filmed.

Hi, I'm Nathan and I will be studying MA Food Studies. I was born in Oxford and have lived in a few different places before recently settling for the long term in West Devon, so I'm just across Dartmoor from Exeter. A fact about my new home town of Tavistock - many of the buildings in the centre of town like the town hall were built from royalties from nearby mining in the Tamar Valley; the copper mine there, Devon Great Consols, was once the most productive copper mine in the world.

Hi! I'm Daisy and I'm studying BA History with a year abroad. I'm from Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, which was founded in 1716 due to the prevalence of Spa Waters. The Spa Waters were actually discovered by pigeons!

Hello! My name is Zach, and I will be studying the BA in Philosophy & Theology. I’m from London, so probably the most urban district of the country, and I’m very much looking forward to getting the hybrid of both the city and beautiful countryside in Exeter. Most of you will probably know lots about London, as it’s the capital, but to try and throw a fun fact in…London is technically classed as a forest! It has over 8 million trees, making it the world's largest urban forest, according to the UN.

One fun fact regarding Boston is that we have some of the oldest public facilities to become available in the United States such as the first public park founded in 1634 named Boston Commons, alongside the first public beach named Revere Beach.

Hi, I'm Ruth and I'm studying BA History. I'm from Kent but spent a couple of years living in Australia when I was younger. A fact about the village I live in is that in the 1700s there was a battle fought between the local inhabitants and the Hawkhurst Gang (a gang of smugglers).

I'm from Shillong, India & something really interesting about my hometown is that its climate is identical to the UK which is contrasting to that of mainland India. Hi, 

My name is Megan, I'm 28 and originally from Warwickshire, also known as Shakespeare's county. I'm lucky I was able to grow up down the road from Stratford Upon Avon and be able to explore when I had the time.

I am returning to University to get my BA in History (special interest in the Early Modern Period - Tudors, James VI/I and the Witch Trials).

I already have my degree in Psychology however this has gone relatively unused and I spent the last 6 years working my way up in a corporate career, before realising that I didn't not find this fulfilling anymore.

I am looking forward to getting started later this month!

Hello, my name is Daniel Jillings. I am profoundly Deaf, and British Sign Language (BSL) is my native language. I will be studying BA History at Exeter for three years! I am from Lowestoft, which is a small town in Suffolk. Interestingly, Lowestoft is the most easterly town in Britain, so I will be travelling for over six hours to Devon. The Darkness, one of my favourite bands, is from Lowestoft, and Justin Hawkins (lead singer) went to a school near my home. Benjamin Britten was also from Lowestoft, but I prefer rock/metal music. Lowestoft was recorded in the Domesday Book, commissioned by William the Conqueror, but it was a much smaller settlement back then! The closest city to Lowestoft is Norwich, but other towns nearby are Great Yarmouth and Southwold. The beach is a special part of Lowestoft, and we used to have an air show there (I remember when a Harrier crashed into the sea).

Hey, I'm Alma studying LLB Law. I have lived all over the place, but currently reside in California's Bay Area. SF's fog is caused due to a phenomenon called upwelling. The combination of cold waters being brought up from the pacific hitting the warm air creates an environment which guarantees that whatever weather is in SF, the complete opposite is happening through the rest of the bay.

Hello everyone! My name is Abby, and I'll be studying LLB Graduate Law. Originally from Scotland, I studied my first degree at the University of Edinburgh, and moved to Exeter in 2022 for work.

Fun fact about Edinburgh is it is a buried city! A lot of old Edinburgh is actually under street level: poorer slum style housing was built on top of following the Bubonic Plague epidemic.

I'm from the New Forest in Hampshire, and a fun fact (not really so fun) is that the New Forest was where William II, or William Rufus, was shot in an 'accident' whilst out on a hunting trip. The New Forest also has some of the oldest trees in the country, with some even over 1000 years old!

Hi Ma! My name is Amelia and I am also studying the MSc Bioarchaeology - human osteology program! I'm also from overseas - coming from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Hope we can meet up during the course! One interesting fact about Indiana is that we are known as the limestone capitol of the world - and you can see a lot of our buildings, monuments, and even early gravestones are produced from limestone.

Hello,

My nickname is "Mie", and it is pronounced like "me" but in a much higher tone. I am about to do an MA in International Education at St. Luke's campus this month! I am an international student originally from Bangkok, Thailand, and have lived there my entire life. A fun fact about my hometown is that we have food available 24/7! You can find food stalls or street food easily here in Bangkok, and you will get to try so many food options. If you love food, you should visit Chinatown in Bangkok and explore the city with public transportation, such as MRT or BTS, since the top 10 traffic-congested cities in the world.

I was born and raised in Gansu Province, China until I get to the China University of Geosciences, Beijing, the city where I spent my past 8 years. It is interesting that the well known traditional special drinks called DouZhi, which is mixed through a special fermentation based on soy milk and has a distinctive smells, is not that much popular within the locals nowadays, but they are still attracting to the visitors and the local elders.

I'm from Hong Kong, and it's the first time for me to study abroad so preparing for this coming year has been quite exciting and scary for me. Hong Kong is such a small city but we have over 7 million people living here so it is ALWAYS crowded with people, even if you go hiking in the mountains. Greetings. I'm Simon, starting the MA in International Relations, part-time. I've recently returned to the UK after many years working overseas, most recently in Switzerland, and am based in Sidmouth, about 15 miles east of Exeter. Fun fact - Sidmouth is the site for one of the UK's larger astronomical observatories, undertaking scientific research and run by its volunteer members. For many years, the observatory was run by the University of Exeter!
